Timiskaming Forest
The Timiskaming Forest is a Crown forest management unit in northeastern Ontario near Temiskaming Shores, Kirkland Lake, Elk Lake, and the Lake Timiskaming region. It is associated with Timiskaming Forest Alliance Inc., which has been identified in provincial and professional forestry material as a Sustainable Forest License organization. The forest lies in a transition area influenced by boreal and Great Lakes–St. Lawrence forest conditions, with spruce, pine, fir, poplar, birch, and mixed wood stands.
Its history is tied to the opening of the Temiskaming and Northern Ontario region by railway, mining, agriculture in the Clay Belt, and forest-products development supplying local and regional mills. The current Timiskaming Forest Management Plan has been referenced for the 2021–2031 period.
Modern management includes harvest planning, renewal, tending, access management, wildlife habitat protection, and consultation with Indigenous communities and the public.
