The Spanish Forest is a Crown forest management unit in northeastern Ontario associated with the Spanish River watershed and the broader Sudbury–Algoma forest landscape. It has historically supplied timber to mills in the north shore, Sudbury, and Sault Ste. Marie regional economy, while also overlapping an area known for canoe routes, fishing, hunting, trapping, tourism, and conservation values.

Management of the Spanish Forest is carried out through Ontario’s Sustainable Forest License and Forest Management Plan system; the responsible license holder prepares plans and annual work schedules under Ministry oversight. The forest’s history is tied to the Spanish River as a transportation corridor, the expansion of rail and logging operations in the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and later conservation planning around the Spanish River canoe route and related protected areas.

Today, planning must balance timber harvesting with waterways, wildlife habitat, recreation values, Indigenous interests, and the ecological character of the boreal–Great Lakes transition zone.
